ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

Warburton Valley CEDA respectfully acknowledges the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation, as the traditional custodians of this land. We pay our deepest respects to all Aboriginal community Elders, past and present, who have resided in the area and have been an integral part of the history of the region.

Wurundjeri People are the original custodians of this land. They take their name from the Woiwurrung language word ‘wurun’ meaning the Manna Gum (Eucalyptus viminalis) which is common along ‘Birrarung’ (Yarra River), and ‘djeri‘, the grub which is found in or near the tree. Wurundjeri are the ‘Witchetty Grub People’ and their Ancestors have lived on this land for millennia. Under the townships of our valley you can read more about the recent white settlement history of the region.
